MOGADISHU (GG) — A coordinated aerial campaign conducted by the Somali National Army and its international defense partners has killed at least 26 Al-Shabaab militants in the country’s southern Middle Shabelle region.

An official press statement released by the Somali Ministry of Defence on Sunday evening confirmed that the targeted strikes struck three distinct insurgent encampments in the areas of Adow Jilib, Gayfo, and Qordheere. The government announcement detailed that the joint operations targeted active staging grounds where Al-Shabaab fighters had assembled to plan asymmetric attacks against regional civilian and military infrastructure.

Further tactical specifics disseminated via a Dawan Africa news report indicate that the precision strikes also resulted in the complete destruction of a military-style pickup truck and a heavily laden fuel tanker. Security officials tracking the operation stated that the interdicted vehicles were being actively utilized by the militant group to sustain tactical mobility and transport combat logistics between frontline nodes in the Shabelle basin.

The intensified bombardment aligns with recent data from the U.S. Africa Command, which independently documented a series of coordinated strikes against Al-Shabaab networks in southern Somalia earlier this week. Military analysts note that the current surge in counter-terrorism operations reflects an expanded reliance by the federal government in Mogadishu on foreign-supported air assets to systematically dismantle insurgent command structures.

According to formal briefings from Somali armed forces spokespersons, field reconnaissance units verified the exact casualty figures and asset destruction before making the operational metrics public. The defense ministry expressed formal gratitude to its un-named international allies for providing the necessary aerial capabilities, reaffirming that joint ground and air sweeps will continue concurrently across the region to deny the group sanctuary.
