Real Madrid have submitted an opening €100 million bid to RB Leipzig for winger Yan Diomandé after manager José Mourinho approved him as a top summer target.

Real Madrid have launched a sudden, high-profile pursuit to sign RB Leipzig’s breakout winger Yan Diomandé after manager José Mourinho officially designated the 19-year-old as the club’s primary attacking target. The shocking market entry has disrupted weeks of negotiations between the Bundesliga side and long-term suitors Paris Saint-Germain.

According to reports published by The Athletic on Saturday, July 25, 2026, Real Madrid formalised their interest by submitting an opening €100 million (£85.4 million) package. The offer consisted of a €90 million fixed baseline fee supplemented by €10 million in performance-related add-ons. RB Leipzig directors immediately rejected the proposal, informing the La Liga giants that they will not entertain any package falling below their clear €120 million evaluation.

The swift acceleration in negotiations comes as a direct consequence of structural changes behind the scenes at the Santiago Bernabéu following the return of José Mourinho for a second managerial tenure. Football insider Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Mourinho has been granted absolute authority over the club’s transfer architecture, having already sanctioned the acquisitions of Marc Cucurella, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva this summer.

Mourinho reportedly intervened to redirect the club’s offensive recruitment strategy after Florentino Pérez’s weeks-long pursuit of Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise reached a total standstill due to the German club’s absolute refusal to negotiate. According to Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho formally notified the Real Madrid executive board of his tactical requirement for “even more speed” and explosive, fresh legs across the baseline attack, viewing Diomandé as an ideal component to diversify an frontline that features Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior.

The multi-million-euro push has prompted a significant transfer U-turn from the Ivory Coast international. Prior to the World Cup, Diomandé had verbally indicated a strict preference to join Paris Saint-Germain to develop under Luis Enrique. However, widespread reports from Sky Sports indicate that positive personal contract discussions with Madrid officials over the last 24 hours have completely shifted his stance, with the player opening the doors to a move to the Spanish capital.

The development has left several English Premier League heavyweights lagging behind in what has effectively become a two-horse race. While Manchester City and Arsenal both initiated exploratory telephone inquiries to RB Leipzig over the last ten days, neither club showed a willingness to go “all in” with an official financial proposal. Liverpool also registered concrete interest but explicitly informed intermediaries they would not match the €100 million baseline threshold.

Real Madrid are now expected to return to the negotiating table with an adjusted second bid closer to €115 million to seal the transfer. Diomandé’s rapid rise into the elite tier follows a spectacular domestic season with RB Leipzig, where the teenager recorded 12 goals and nine assists across 33 Bundesliga appearances, capped by a strong individual performance during the group stages of the World Cup.
