The Liverpool v Chelsea Carabao Cup fourth-round tie is at Anfield on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 11 p.m. EAT, with Chelsea missing the suspended Cole Palmer.
Palmer was sent off in Chelsea’s 2-0 Premier League home loss to Tottenham on Saturday, and Sky Sports said he is suspended for the cup tie.
Liverpool, led by head coach Andoni Iraola, beat Brighton 2-0 on Sunday, Sky Sports reported.
How Palmer was sent off
Citizen Digital reported that Palmer collected a first yellow card for a rough challenge on Mateus Fernandes. He received a second yellow, and so a red, for a stamp on Conor Gallagher at about the 80th minute.
The card came after Mike Penders’ own goal in the 77th minute put Tottenham ahead. Mathys Tel scored in the 87th minute to make it 2-0. Citizen Digital described the result as a rare win for Spurs at Chelsea.
BritBrief reported that Palmer also misses Chelsea’s next league game, at home to Manchester United.
Our earlier preview of the Tottenham match looked at the table gap, Spurs’ first win and a goalkeeper doubt.
What Alonso and Merson said
Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said after the match, BritBrief reported: “we need to have this maturity to deal with difficult moments.”
Paul Merson said in Sky Sports’ Carabao Cup talking points:
If they get beat by Liverpool and Man Utd this week, then Chelsea are in big trouble.

Liverpool FC said kick-off at Anfield is 8 p.m. GMT. Iraola held his pre-match press conference on Tuesday at the AXA Training Centre.
Sky Sports said Liverpool have won three games in a row. It also said Rio Ngumoha, a former Chelsea player, is expected to start against his old club.
